The Doors close on Manzarek and Krieger

Doors` founders Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger have been stopped from The Doors name again.

The California Supreme Court has issued a ruling stopping Manzarek and Krieger from promoting their band with any name that includes 'Doors’.The pair can no longer tour as The Doors of the 21st Century and cannot use any likeness to Jim Morrison in their promotion.Manzarek and Kreiger’s troubles started when they dumped original member John Densmore from their touring line-up. Densmore aligned with the family of Jim Morrison to take action against the two remaining members, claiming that their continuation in any form using The Doors name watered down the legacy of the band. In an interesting turn of events, the California Supreme Court agreed.Manzarek and Krieger have been ordered to pay damages and costs estimated at $5 million for Densmore and Morrison family for using images of the original band during their tours that have grossed more than $8 million.Manzarek and Krieger no longer tour as The Doors of the 21st Century. You will find them listed in your gig guide as Riders On The Storm, a reference to another great Doors song (but legal).

Lily Allen Won´t Quit Drugs

Lily Allen doesn't know if she will stop taking drugs.

The 'Smile' singer, who attempted to punch a passer-by after leaving a London nightspot in the early hours of Tuesday morning (19.08.08), admits she isn't a "good person" when she is under the influence of illegal substances but still can't bring herself to quit. She told Paper magazine: "I'm not going to say I'm never going to do drugs again. I just know I'm not a good person on drugs." However, the 23-year-old star insists she did stop using recreational drugs after she discovered she was expecting a baby with then-boyfriend Ed Simons last November. Lily, who suffered a miscarriage in January, says she vowed to clean up her life for the sake of her unborn child. She said: "It was the hardest thing for me. When I realised I was pregnant and realised I wanted to have the baby, I made a huge decision - to make my life more stable." Lily has previously openly discussed her drug use, admitting she first began experimenting with ecstasy when she was just 14. Lily also claimed she thinks her drink was spiked in June this year when she was pictured being carried out of a party for the Glamour Magazine awards in London. She said: "I did drink that night. Then I woke up in my bed at 8 am and felt totally fine. So I Googled myself, and I saw the pictures. "It was awful. I can't believe I got into that state. It leads me to believe somebody put something in my drink or something. Because it's totally not in my repertoire to do something like that."

Madonna vs. McCain

Madonna kicked off her "Sticky and Sweet" world tour on Saturday night, and - as she has done in the past - made sure to include some political satire in the new show.
In it, she compares Presidential hopeful John McCain with Adolf Hitler!
She also compared McCain to Zimbabwe's authoritarian President Robert Mugabe.
Well, McCain's camp is fighting back. His spokesman is speaking out against her Madgesty.
The Republican's rep, Tucker Bounds, says in a statement, "The comparisons are outrageous, unacceptable and crudely divisive all at the same time."
Bounds adds, "It clearly shows that when it comes to supporting Barack Obama, his fellow worldwide celebrities refuse to consider any smear or attack off limits."
Apparently this all happened during Madonna's song Get Stupid. Photos of McCain were flashed up alongside images of global warming and destruction, as well as pics of Hitler and Mugabe.
Then, towards the end of the song, photos appeared of John Lennon, Mahatma Gandhi, Al Gore, and even Barack Obama.

Gary Glitter Deported From Vietnam

Pedophile Gary Glitter is coming home!
Glam rocker Glitter has been in a Vietnamese jail since 2006 for committing 'obscene' acts with two young girls, aged 10 and 11 at the time.
Vietnamese authorities are now kicking him out of the country. They're so intent on getting him out that they even paid for his one way trip to London's Heathrow airport.
Glitter had told his Vietnamese lawyer that he did not want to go back to the UK, but Vietnamese law requires he be returned to his home country.
The problematic rocker said he intends to resume his singing career and might move to Singapore or Hong Kong.

Glitter was convicted in Britain in 1999 of possessing child pornography, and served half of a four-month jail term.

Rocker Jackson Browne Sues McCain Over a Song

Rock star Jackson Browne has sued U.S. presidential candidate John McCain for copyright infringement, accusing the presumptive Republican nominee of using the singer's 1977 hit "Running on Empty" in a campaign ad without permission.
The suit, filed on Thursday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, also names the Republican National Committee and the Ohio Republican Party as defendants. It seeks a permanent injunction against further use of Browne's music and at least $75,000 in damages.
The campaign spot mocks McCain's Democratic rival for the White House, Barack Obama, for suggesting the nation conserve gasoline through proper tire inflation, with Browne's most famous song, "Running on Empty," playing in the background.
The suit claims use of the song without Browne's permission is a copyright violation and a breach of the U.S. Lanham Act by falsely implying Browne is associated with and endorses McCain's bid for president.
It also says use of Browne's voice in the ad violates the performer's so-called right of publicity under California law.
Browne's lawyer, Lawrence Iser, said his client is "a well-known, lifelong liberal activist and supporter of Democratic candidates, and use of his song and his voice in a commercial bashing Barack Obama is anathema to Jackson."
A spokesman for McCain's campaign, Brian Rogers, said the Arizona senator was wrongly singled out as a target of the lawsuit because the ad in question was the sole work of the Ohio Republican Party.
"We had nothing to do with the creation or distribution of this ad whatsoever," Rogers told Reuters. "Mr. McCain's name should quite simply be removed from this lawsuit immediately."

But Iser said the Republican Party of Ohio, a key battleground state in the presidential race, "acted as an agent and in concert with Sen. McCain and the Republican National Committee."
"It certainly looks and smells like a McCain campaign piece," he added. "We'll let a jury decide.
There was no immediate comment from the RNC or Ohio Republican Party representatives.
Iser said the ad, which he said he believed was aired on television in Ohio and Pennsylvania, was removed from the Internet last week by the Ohio Republican Party in response to a cease-and-desist demand from Browne.

Britney Nabs a 3rd VMA Nomination

A year after her calamitous comeback performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, Britney Spears has garnered a third nomination for this year's show, but it remained unclear whether she would dare a repeat appearance.
MTV, which has been rolling out nominations for various categories in recent weeks, named Spears on Friday as one of five candidates in the running for its coveted Video of the Year award, for the clip to her single "Piece of Me."
The same title already has earned her nominations for best female video and best pop video.
In the category for Video of the Year, she is competing against the Jonas Brothers' "Burnin Up," Chris Brown's "Forever," Pussycat Dolls "When I Grow Up" and the Ting Tings' "Shut Up and Let Me Go."
The nominees for best rock video, also named on Friday, are Paramore for "CrushCrushCrush," Slipknot's "Psychosocial," Linkin Park's "Shadow of the Day," Foo Fighters' "The Pretender" and Fall Out Boy's cover of the Michael Jackson hit "Beat It."
But Spears' nominations remain particularly tantalizing because of mounting speculation about whether she will take a chance at returning to the MTV Video Music Awards with memories still fresh from her much-derided appearance last year.
Spears herself added to the hype by recently filming a series of promotional spots for the upcoming awards show with a real-life, 9,000-pound elephant literally in the room with her.
Coming off two marriages, two children and two stints in rehab, Spears sought to launch a career comeback on last year's show with a performance of the song "Gimme More" that proved a publicity bomb for Spears but a ratings boon for MTV.

She ended up drawing a torrent of ridicule for lumbering around on stage in an ill-fitting black bikini as she lip-synced her way through the dance number.
With Spears said to be back in the recording studio this summer working on her next album, MTV has made the most of the suspense surrounding a possible return to the VMAs by the 26-year-old pop icon, refusing to say whether she might appear as either a presenter or performer.
Spears has yet to ever win an MTV Video Music Award.
The 25th annual edition of the VMAs, long considered a looser, hipper version of the Grammys, will be broadcast live on MTV on September 7, returning to Los Angeles for the first time in a decade.
The show will be hosted by British comedian Russell Brand from the recent film "Forgetting Sarah Marshall."

Disc Makers buys CD Baby

CD Baby has now been sold to Disc Makers, according to information confirmed by CD Baby founder Derek Sivers. "I chose Disc Makers as the new owner because their president Tony Van Veen has been one of my favorite people for years, and I always felt they'd do a better job of running CD Baby than I would," Sivers explained in a recent blog post.
Sivers noted that the CD Baby name, location, staff, and overall operation will remain the same. "But I think you'll start to notice more attention given to improvements that help you sell more music," Sivers continued.
The move represents a potentially interesting diversification for Disc Makers, a company that offers CD and DVD pressing services. As media consumption increasingly shifts towards digital formats, the physical specialization puts the company in a vulnerable position, though Disc Makers is also geared towards smaller artists, labels, and filmmakers. That overlays neatly with the clientele of CD Baby, which largely caters towards the distribution needs of unsigned artists.
